After Michael Oluronbi, a Nigerian pastor, was found guilty of s£xual offenses against six women and one man, he and his wife Juliana were given a 34-year prison sentence in the United Kingdom.
After tricking the victims into participating in "spiritual bathing to cleanse them of evil spirits," he abused children and adults for more than 20 years.
Olurnobi received a 34-year prison sentence for repeatedly raping members of his congregation. In addition to at least 88 distinct instances in which he sexually assaulted his victims, he was found guilty on fifteen charges of rape, seven counts of indecent assault, and two counts of s£xual assault.
According to testimony given at Birmingham Crown Court, some of the victims became pregnant more than once, but Olurnobi would take them to abortion clinics in order to hide the abuse.
Due to her assistance in helping Olurnobi arrange for the victims' abortions, his wife was sentenced to 11 years in prison for three counts of aiding and abetting rape.
Signing the s£xual Offenders' Register is a lifelong requirement for both defendants.
Oluronbi was associated with a Nigerian-born Christian congregation in Edgbaston, Birmingham called the Cherubim and Seraphim Church. He initiated the "spiritual bathing" after establishing his own splinter group at a different address. The jury was informed about how the offenses happened in Birmingham.
The revelations that resulted in a conviction serve as yet another example of how the proverbial "touch not my anointed" clause does not preclude the investigation of so-called men of God.
