In what seems to be a brewing war of power between the Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, and the President of the federal republic of Nigeria, the former has defied the latter's directives on the currency swap policy of the federal government.
The two had in the past enjoyed a cordial relationship that was special in many ways. But with President Buhari's insistence to curb vote buy through the currency swap, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has challenged the president and CBN policy and obtained a favourable ruling from the Supreme Court.
President Buhari, however, issued a directive that retained the old N200 as the only surviving denomination of the three, N200, N500 and N1000. This as contained in a video broadcast.
An official statement issued by the governor of Kaduna State stated that in accordance with the Supreme Court's current decision, the Kaduna State Government has instructed its ministries, departments, and agencies to guarantee that its collection agents continue to accept payments in all naira denominations, old and new.
