A two-day manhunt ended on Sunday when Florida police announced the arrest of a gunman who allegedly shot dead his girlfriend, her six-year-old daughter, and her mother on Friday night before apologizing for the triple murder on Facebook.
Ernst Cherizard, 38, was taken into custody by the Haines City Police Department in central Florida on Sunday.
He was seen being led out in handcuffs while wearing a white prison suit. Two police officers escorted Cherizard to a police cruiser.
A booking photo taken shortly after his arrest shows Cherizard shirtless while he stares blankly into the camera.
Authorities say Cherizard committed a triple homicide Friday night in Haines City, which is just outside the Tampa Bay region.
Cherizard allegedly shot dead his 23-year-old girlfriend, Eli Junia Normil, inside an apartment complex, according to WTSP-TV.
According to police, Cherizard then shot and wounded Normil’s six-year-old daughter, Elizabelle Frenel.
Elizabelle suffered three gunshot wounds, according to police.
Investigators say Cherizard aimed at least one of the shots at her head, WTVT-TV reported.
A short time later, Normil’s mother, Nicole Guillume, 48, arrived at the scene. She, too, was fatally shot by Cherizard, according to WTVT-TV.
Normil and her mother died at the scene.
The Haines City Police Department announced on Sunday that Elizabelle succumbed to her wounds at an Orlando hospital just before 11pm on Saturday.
Cherizard and Normil shared two small children. Elizabelle is Normil’s daughter from a different father.
Police say that Cherizard then fled the scene in a 2011 Nissan Ultima with Florida license plate GZN C82.
Investigators said Cherizard left the scene while young Elizabelle was bleeding from her wounds.
On Facebook, Cherizard wrote a rambling 255-word post in which he threatened to kill himself and claimed that he and his girlfriend, Normil, were ‘fighting for the gun’ before he ‘lost it’ and started ‘hearing voices in my head.’
'Idk what happen all I know is we was fighting for the gun then I lost it it’s almost like I was hearing voices in my head I love them I deserve the worst that’s coming for me nothing less and one thing plz Guys don’t keep no guns at your home man fr I we had 2 guns one for one for me n now look what happen I f*** up my life up and the one I truly love and care bout I don’t think my kids deserve this at all they won’t know their mom this is pure evil and I’m not a evil person at All sorry guys I took a great person live from you guys now it’s time for me to pay for what I’ve done... to my kids ABIGAIL,MIA,ERNEST JR. And ERNESTINA C. Daddy is so sorry with all my heart I can’t even explain what happened cuz I can’t believe this happened.’
The post went viral. It was shared more than 1,200 times and was commented upon more than 2,300 times as of Sunday night.
Local law enforcement officials were horrified and angered by what they saw.
The local chief of police says the public shouldn’t believe Cherizard is sincerely remorseful.
‘Despite his indicated remorse, make no mistake about it — this man is a monster,’ Haines City Police Chief Jim Elensky said in a news release.
‘To consciously shoot three innocent, unarmed females is nothing less than being a coward.
‘To shoot a truly innocent six-year-old child is disgusting and beyond comprehension.
‘Moreover, he shot the child at least three times, once being in the head.
‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and the first responders who did everything they could at the scene.
‘They also must live with this tragedy.’
Police say they do not know what drove Cherizard to allegedly carry out the shootings.
‘No motivation, no motive at this point. [It's still] early on in the investigation,’ Elensky said.
Normil's brother, Annel Normil, said: ‘I was traumatized.
‘I spoke to her two days ago and she was like “I'm doing good bro I'm working.”
‘She's the manager at one of the fast-food restaurants down in the Haines City area.’
Annel Normil said that from his interactions with Cherizard, he never believed he was capable of hurting her.
‘He always talked to me like he cared for my sister and that he wanted to marry her one day,’ Normil said.
‘He always seems cool to me. I don't think he would have ever done something like that.’
The local police said that the United States Marshals Service assisted efforts to track down Cherizard.
