The Supreme Court criticized President Muhammadu Buhari's move to redesign the N200, N500, and N1,000 banknotes without consulting the federation's 36 states on Friday.
It ruled that the states were not provided reasonable notice, as required by section 20(3) of the CBN Act, before the old Naira notes were removed.
As a result, the Supreme Court, in its lead judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, ruled that President Buhari's consent for the CBN to remove the old banknotes was unlawful.
